Injury to my Bottom Right Inferior Alveolar Nerve

As I blogged before, I had my bottom right wisdom tooth extracted last Wednesday. However, since then I have numbness over my bottom right lip, chin, and gum. It was not fun at all. I can't feel. It's a bad feeling. I checked online about numbness after wisdom tooth extraction. It was unnerving. I was scared.

It seemed that during the procedure, my inferior alveolar nerve was injured and therefore, the numbness. Some said if the injury was severe, the numbness will be permanent. If there is no feeling (ie. tingling or prickling sensation), then the damage is permanent. However, if you still have some sensation, then the nerve is repairing.

I was scared the first two days when I was still checking online. However, later, I felt the sensations and I was feeling a lot better. I searched more and they said taking B12 will help the regenerating of the nerves. So now I am taking Bcomplex, milk, yogurt, eggs, to help the nerve regenerating.

It will take a long time for the nerve to repair. My dentist said it could take 1 or 2 weeks but some might take 1 or 2 months. I am not sure which one I am and I hope one week will be enough for my nerve to regenerate and heal. I want to feel my bottom lip and chin again. :(

  1. Hi there!

I am Wen Xin from Singapore. I chance upon your blog while researching for more information on this condition. Thank you for sharing the journey, it gives me some hope at this desperate moment, thank you!

I totally reconcile with what you have written. And I really hope that you have fully recovered already. Would you be able to advise me on how long the recovery will take?

    Take care.
